Lewis Silverwood started Maple Sky Lab in 2017 out of a converted industrial unit in Guelph, Ontario, after eight years running the environmental chemistry bench at a large contract lab in Mississauga. The work there was technically sound, but the reporting chain was long and impersonal. Clients would submit samples and receive a PDF two weeks later with no explanation of what the numbers meant or who to call. Lewis kept a running list of the questions clients asked him informally, after hours, and that list eventually became the blueprint for a different kind of laboratory.
